KALNIRNAY, India’s largest selling publication, is now launching regional editions of its Marathi calmanac, which will entail special suppliments for Marathwada, Vidharbha, Nasik-Bhusaval belt, Pune and Konkan. This is the first ever time that a calendar-almanac will address regional issues. The regional editions will have additional supplements attached to the main calender which will give readers utility services ranging from telephone numbers of hospitals, a list of educational institutions or addresses of blood banks. Civic issues of the region will be raised by topical articles. These editions will also have historico-cultural articles written by eminent personalities of the region. According to managing director Jayraj Salgaonkar of the Sumangal Press Private Limited, which publishes the calmanac, the regional editions are value-added services given by the calmanac. “It serves different geographical segments of maharashtra and broadens the base of the calmanac. Lke Marathi, we will eventually start similar regional editions in other language calmanacs as well,” he said. The Kalnirnay calmanac is available in eight other Indian languages. While the Marathi calmanac sells five milion copies every year, the other language editions together sell over four million copies in a year. The calmanac was popularised by Jayant Salgaonkar who provided a calender along with other user-friendly nuggets of information. The publishing group has been in the business for 27 years now. Interestingly, the publishing group has also done a themewise segregation of Kalnirnay calmanacs. For instance, specialised editions are available on health, beauty, agriculture and cookery, Moreover, there are two special Kalnirnay for the office locations, (small and megasize), to cater to the office needs.
