Baisakhi
Baisakhi falls on 13th April, which is celebrated in Punjab & Haryana as a harvest festival. To pay tribute to this event. Prayer meetings are organised in Gurudwaras. The main celebration takes place in the gurudwara at Anantpur Saheb. Where the order was formed. After a symbolic bath with milk & water, the Guru Granth Saheb is ceremonially taken out from its resting chamber. Believers perform Kar Seva Shabeds and Kirtans all day long to honour Guru Govind Singh and believed five, the founders of the Khalsa Panth. Gurupurab Gurupurab mean festival of Gurus. Birth Anniversary of the ten gurus of Khalsa Panth is celebrated as Gurupurab, of which the most important is that of Guru Nanak. Holla Mohalla The festival is celebrated one day after Holi in Anandpur Sahib and Muktser in Punbaj. On this day guru granth saheb is taken out from its resting chamber and placed on the dais. It is given a symbolic bath with milk and water. Verses from its pages are then recited. Shabads and kirtnas are sung all day long.They display their skills in archery, sword fencing, horse riding & shooting in competition. On this day Sikhs reaffirm their commitment to the brotherhood of man and their dedication to Khalsa Pantha. |
