Gopal Kala (Janma Shtami)

Lord Krishna, the eighth avtaar of Lord Vishanu was born in Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha, some time in July or August as per English calendar. 

Lord Krishna was born at the midnight, hence the celebrations also start in the midnight. The story about Lord Krishna'a birth is being told and then the idol of Krishna in his childhood is worshiped. Next day is celebrated as "Dahikala" ( A dish made of curd). As Lord Krishna used to like curd in his childhood, hence a pot full of curd is being hanged at a sufficient height and then the youngsters try to break it by building a structure.
