Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh is one of the foremost God for the Hindus. This festival is specially celebrated in Maharashtra. The "Peshvas" started this festival in the month of Bhadrapd from fourth day to tenth day. In 1893 Mr. Bal Gangadhar Tilak made it open for everyone so that people can come together to form unity. Initially it was started in Pune, but later it spread all over Maharashtra. Now this festival is marked for ten days, from chaturthi to chaturdashi i.e. 4th days to 14th days of the month Bhadrapad. On last day a huge procession is carried and emersion of the Idol of Lord Ganesh is carried out in the water. |
