Dussehra
The dussehra festival falls on the 10th day of waxing moon in the month of Asham, some time in September or October as per english calender. On this day the king of evils 'Ravan' was defeated by Lord Ram on this day, and also wife of Lord Shiva, "Shakti" killed the evil king "Mahishasura" to free all the gods, who were arrested by the evil king. Before this day Lord Shakti slept for nine days, and on tenth day she killed the evil. To mark this, people observe nine day fast. On tenth day all Hindus worship their respective tools and tackles, which they use to earn for themselves. They also greet each other by giving leafs of "shami" tree or "Aapta" tree. |
