The birth anniversary of Jesus Christ is celebrated as Christmas on 25th December. Christmas is a time for festivity. Prayers, merry making & sending cards are most of the Christmas rituals. As Jesus was born at midnight, they celebrated mass on the eve of festivals. For this day churches and homes are decorated with colorful lights. Some Indian Christians light oil lamp as well. Some sections of the Roman Catholics for sake eating meat during the period known as the advent, from the 1st to 25th of December. For this festival special celebrations special discounts, bargain offers, bonuses are offered to make shopping more attractive. Friends and relatives exchange presents. Santa Claus distributes gifts and sweets to childern. Easter
Easter is the oldest of all Christian festivals. Christian community rejoices at the resurrection of Christ on Easter. At home people come together to participate in the ceremonial Easter feast. The most significant Easter food is lamb. According to Bible, when Jesus was crucified and declared dead a man named Joseph took his body down from the cross. Some women saw that the body had been placed in the grave without being anointed with any of the customary spices or perfumes. They went home to prepare it and when they come back on Sunday, they saw that stone had been rolled away from the entrance of the tomb, but they could find the body inside. Then they saw two angels, who asked them, why you are searching body of a man who has been raised and was alive. This news spread allover and people rejoiced at the return of the son of god. Good Friday is observed two days before easter to honour the martyrdom of Jesus Christ. A plant of wood, representing the cross on which christ was crucified is displayed in churches for the venerator of believers. One by one, they come & kiss it. Good Friday is marked as day of prayers & penances the bells of the churches remain silent an Good Friday. |
